Allow me to brag a little bit. A kitchen I designed along with North Star Kitchens won second place in a national competition! The N.C.B.A. (National Kitchen and Bath Association) held it's yearly awards banquet a few weeks ago and it was announced that this kitchen won second place in the "Open plan kitchen" category.
You may remember I blogged about this house a few months ago. It is a penthouse condo in historic Stillwater Minnesota. The theme was "water". we used a lot of smooth shiny surfaces such as lacquered cabinets and glass doors. some of the countertops were made of wavy glass and had lighting imbedded to give it a soft glow. There was even a lighted etched glass "wave" suspended above the soffits.
There is bar seating on two sides of the island and I selected a three dimensional porcelain tile for the face of the bar. The backsplash has mini mosaic glass tiles.
I designed the custom drapery in cool colors and rich browns to accent the kitchen colors. The fringe is actually steel beads to pick up the smooth stainless steel elements of the kitchen.
I think one of the reasons this kitchen is so successful is that even though it is small, it is efficient, effective and elegant.
